Acrylic on canvas, 2016. This is from the earliest batch of paintings posted on Instagram without titles. Its small size (approx. 20 x 20 in) provided scope to easily change the dynamic of the composition simply by the swish (splurge or splotch) of the brush. It offered a dexterity less amenable at larger scale and is something I’ve wished for (but not consistently accomplished yet).
Acrylic on canvas, 2016. Brown is not used much in my repertoire – and I try to challenge my colour proclivities. I can’t ‘force’ a colour merely because I ‘don’t use it much and therefore it would be good to use’ (yes I have tried this and the results are almost always very dull). There must have been a modicum of inspiration here for brown to land and stay.
Acrylic on canvas, 2016. This was painted flat (on the floor rather than propped against a wall).
Acrylic on canvas, 2016. As the title suggests, painted in a flurry fuelled by lashings of cheap house red. As a technique, the addition of wine to the ingredients is hit-n’-miss (in terms of successful results).
Acrylic on canvas, 2016. There’s a few scratchy doodle marks in this one which I have found (thus far) to be unsatisfying – perhaps because I judge them distractions from the ‘serious’ endeavour with brush and paint.
